From ALATA President, Heloise Jones

Dear ALATA Members,

Happy New Year to all!  I hope that this finds everyone recuperated from the hectic bustle of the fall football season.  I hope everyone had a blessed holiday season and I wish everyone a prosperous 2010!!

First, I would like to send acknowledgements out to the athletic training staff from the University of Alabama and their successful season.  Congratulations in your efforts in keeping your team healthy so that they were able to bring home the title of National Champions!!

Secondly, I would like to thank all of you and your conscientious effort in making the CEU reporting process for this year a smooth one.  As many of you all know our reporting period was earlier this year due to the changes that were made to comply with the Sunset Review Board.  Again thank you for your cooperation in making it a smooth transition.

Which brings me to my next order of business; the 2010 Legislative Session began Tuesday, January 12th and as many of you know over the last three year period we as an association have actively sought legislative updates in our practice act.  This year will be no different.  As we enter this new legislative session we will be making another push to address the current trends in healthcare and how it will affect our jobs at the state level.

We will be holding our very own Hit the Hill campaign here in the state on Thursday, February 25th, beginning at 8 A.M. please keep posted for details regarding this day.  Prior to this big day I would like to urge each of you to make every effort to contact your local representatives and introduce yourselves.  Tell them who you are, what you do for the communities that they represent and thank each of them for their continued support of our profession.  Invite your representatives to local athletic events; encourage them to visit our website.  Give them every opportunity to learn about us, what we do, where we work and how we got there.  With that being said stay tuned for more information and details regarding our campaign on February 25th

Thank you all for your hard work and dedication to the profession of athletic training.  I hope to see you all in Montgomery!!
